I want to find a way to help protect this planet.

We are, as a species, raping our own home. One of the few things that unites the human race, the Earth, is on a fast track to destruction, and it’s thanks to us, with and our ignorance and hubris. Catastrophic climate change begets catastrophe for humanity, and coupled with the instability of our political and economical climates, we’re going to be seeing a total collapse on a global scale within the next century and well beyond. There are no “whats” or “ifs” about it; not believing in climate change doesn’t make it any less existent, and it’s amazing how people cannot grasp the fact that this is a real threat. However, finger-pointing isn’t what I want to do, because we are, as a civilization, collectively responsible for this disaster.

Our tarnishing of the Earth has already caused severe abnormalities in the planet’s weather over the past two decades, and it’s only going to get more severe from here on. In a short time, oceans will become more acidic, causing phytoplankton to die out. These organisms help provide the vast majority of our planet’s oxygen levels, and without them we will see a drastic increase in carbon dioxide gasses in out atmosphere. Ice caps will melt, releasing methane into the atmosphere, heating it further. This all just creates a snowballing effect of instability within our planet’s climate, and we don’t have the resources to adapt. The sad truth is, shit has already been thrown on course for the fan, and there’s nothing capable of intercepting it before it hits.

However, the human species will not become extinct, and there will be masses that pull through the ordeal within the next few centuries, but it will result in a very loose civilization of muted living. As it stands, we have no goddamn clue how not to destroy ourselves with our present consumption and expansion.

It’s a sad truth that gets marked off as “extreme”, which then equates to “false” in many people’s minds. As blissful as this neglect for the truth is, it’s not going to prevent the inevitable.

Despite this, I still want to find a way to soften the blow so our future generations don’t need to suffer so badly due to our disregard for this planet. I don’t know how- I don’t have the slightest clue -but I will find a way to somehow promote the idea that Earth is our only home, and we are not “ordained by God” to reap the planet of its resources if in turn we churn out pollution and massive carbon emissions. To those who believe in God, ask yourself this- why would a God who loves His children more than we could ever comprehend command us to destroy that which He created? This message isn’t clear to those who live secular lives, either. It’s a change in our lifestyles that needs to be accepted and carried out by everyone, regardless of beliefs or creed (or lack thereof). No matter who you are, this planet is your home. Treat it as such.
